Cubbies Leader Our cubbies age group is for our 3-4 year old students. This group remains in their two designated classrooms the entirety of the night. Leaders are in charge of planning/teaching the verses provided in their Cubbies handbooks as well as planning and leading any games/activities for their time together and distributing awards for those who complete verses.
Sparks Leaders We have three separate Sparks classes, each one going through a separate book (Hang Glider- K5 age, Wing Runner- 1st Grade Age, and Sky Stormer- 2nd grade age). We are looking for three separate adults to teach the Bible verses provided in each of these books to the children in their respective age groups. These leaders would also keep track of which verses their children say each week and pass on that information to the Awana Commander for awards. They would also supervise their children during the opening/closing ceremony with the entire group each week. These leaders would give out Awana shares for completing verses.
T&T Leaders In the past, our T&T age group has consisted of children 3rd-6th grade. While we still plan to provide Awana programming for our 5th and 6th grade students, we are moving them to their own class with Pastor Charles. With this change, we are looking specifically for leaders who can teach Bible verses to our 3rd and 4th grade students as well as keep track of which verses their children say each week and pass on that information to the Awana Commander for awards. They would also supervise their children during the opening/closing ceremony with the entire group each week. These leaders would give out Awana shares for completing verses.
Games Leaders Games leaders would work with Pastor Charles to develop a running list of games that they can lead students in for twenty minutes at a time for two separate age groups: Sparks (K5-2nd grade) and T&T (3rd-6th grade). We are looking for two people to be the go-to games leaders and lead both age groups. Games leaders would also reward Awana shares to winning teams and participants who wear “game socks” (mismatched socks).
Check-In/Check-out Registration We are looking for adults who can help insure the safety of our students as they check-in for Awana and check-out afterwards by going home with the right parents. These two individuals will be given documents with which to track attendance and confirm an approved adult is picking the child up. Check-In people would also award Awana shares as children walk in for attendance, bringing a first time guest, and other attendance related incentives.
Awana Commander “Awana commander” is a term used at Awana locations across the world in church’s who use Awana to refer to individuals who oversee the use of curriculum and distribution of awards for all students under a church’s Awana program. This person will work closely with Pastor Charles to observe classrooms and help them as they seek to teach Bible verses using the Awana curriculum. This includes keeping an eye on the church’s inventory to make sure we have a good supply of curriculum and books needed for children within our budget, keeping track of awards for students and making sure we are well stocked on the awards needed, and overseeing the Awana store to make sure that we have lots of prizes that keep kids engaged (as well as making sure we do not run out of Awana shares). Previous experience in an Awana ministry for a local church is helpful in this role.
Classroom Assistants Assistants are needed to make things easier for all age groups as well as our games leaders. These individuals are encouraged to spend time one-on-one with kids to develop real relationships and follow specific instructions given to them by their classroom leaders for kids who need additional attention. Classroom assistants will also help children during dedicated verse memorization time by helping them practice before they attempt saying their verses to the classroom leader. Additionally, classroom assistants will help keep children attentive and focused during opening/closing ceremony each week.
Song Leaders A few people are needed to lead songs at our opening ceremony each week. These songs will consist of playing videos on the big screen in the church auditorium that the leaders will then demonstrate the motions to with enthusiasm. These leaders will need to explain the motions to the songs before they are sung as well to help introduce them. We will sing two songs a week on average, and Pastor Charles will work alongside these song leaders to help them choose the songs for the night in advance.
Sound/PowerPoint A few helpers are needed to help oversee the sound/PowerPoint during the weekly opening/closing ceremonies and make sure everything runs smoothly. This job requires very little commitment and generally consists of hitting the right buttons at the right time according to printed out instructions.
Awana Store Attendants Each week, the Awana store will be made available at the end of the Awana meeting for kids to spend the Awana shares that they have either earned that night or have been saving up for weeks to months on end. Awana store attendants will set up the Awana store during the closing ceremony, run it during dismissal time, and then put it away after children have gone home each week.
Weekly Set-up and Clean-up Help is needed each week to help make sure every classroom is clean and set up for classes to learn God’s Word as well as making sure that the chairs are removed from the fellowship hall for games and the first two rows of the auditorium for opening/closing ceremony. Help is also needed after Awana is done to prepare the auditorium, fellowship hall, and classrooms for Sunday morning worship. There will likely be separate teams for set-up and clean-up.
Back-up Teachers While we are looking for leaders who can commit to teaching every week, we know that nobody is ever able to help every Friday night for an entire year, so to proactively plan for that issue, we are looking for volunteers who can help teach classes when teachers are absent. Likewise, we are looking for back-up helpers that can be available for weeks that large numbers of help are expected to be absent (such as youth retreats for our teenage help, for example).
